Bringing Awareness to Autism

Social Post

Did you know that April 2nd is #WorldAutismAwarenessDay? Autism awareness is important to the 5P because many of our team members know or love someone living with autism. This day of observance aims to increase awareness, educate others, and celebrate differences.

Autism is a neurological and developmental disorder that can impact a person in varying and different ways. There is a spectrum of characteristics each individual may have that is unique to them. No one person with autism is the same, and they often have a wide range of intellectual abilities. In fact, many individuals on the autism spectrum have earned college and graduate degrees and work in a variety of professions.

Some characteristics on the spectrum are:

  • Delayed motor skills
  • Unique social skills
  • Delayed verbal skills
  • Sensory overload
  • Stimming behaviors
  • Unexpected emotional responses
  • Unpredictable behavioral regulation

Most of us in life know someone with Autism. In honor of this day, 5P would like to share some resources for those interested in learning more.
